My grandmother owns an elderly foster home. This is a home where adults who can not take care of themselves, but do not need daily nursing care are allowed to live. In some ways it is similar to a nursing home; however, unlike nursing homes, this is a HOME….these people become part of a family and receive must more individual attention. I could never take on this responsibility myself (I don’t think), but I am so proud that at 72 years old, my grandmother still gives much of her heart, body, and soul to other people. She has always done this, and I think it is such a special quality she has.
This week we’ve had a good time looking over some new furniture for her house that is more “elderly friendly” called lift chairs. As we get older, it becomes more and more difficult to get ourselves off of couches or out of chairs. It seems (though it doesn’t happen) that those chairs just get closer and closer to the ground. My grandmother has tried many solutions from piling cushions in chairs to make them taller to keeping walkers or other devices close to the couch or chair for leverage. But now that I’ve been given the opportunity to review lift chairs, she’s considering ordering one and trying it out.
Lift chairs are recliner type chairs that have an electronic element. They lift to bring the chair to a higher level that is more comfortable and safe for those who because of age and/or health reasons have a hard time in regular sitting arrangements. If you know anyone that could use such a chair, check out All Liftchairs for many different models with various looks and features.
