That’s the announcement my mom made to me this weekend, and I’m thinking, “WHAT!?!?!” I’m not ready for Christmas. Yes, I have most presents, but not all of them, and they are all in storage! But my brother will be here any time from Iraq, and Mom wants to celebrate while he is here. Now that I’ve gotten over the shock, I’m kind of excited. It will be nice to celebrate the holidays with Tommie. But now that I can think, I’ve got to also get some clarification. Are we having all of Christmas? Or just exchanging our gifts to and from him? I mean I do love him, but what will we do on Christmas day if we have full fledged Christmas on Thansgiving? I’m still looking for the answers, and also inventoring who I’ve bought for and who I haven’t. If I do have to finish up rapidly, what will I buy for everyone. I know that one brother wants work boots, but I don’t know what to get for Tommie. I mean I hate to buy him something that he just has to leave here when he heads back to Iraq, but I want to get him something special. And if this means I have to make decisions for my parents, I’m really in trouble. They are always the last two people do be marked off my list. I never know what to get for them as they buy anything they want for themselves. Yikes!! Those 45 days I thought I had left may have just turned into just a few days! Ideas?!?
We’re Having Christmas Early!!!

I’m not sure what your brother is into or what his job is over there, but I might have a few ideas. When my husband was deployed, there was a group of them who would get together and watch seasons of shows on DVD. DVD’s are always good if he’s got the time and means to watch them. Electronic handheld games too. If he’s a truck driver of any sort, gum will help him stay awake on long missions. I always sent gum for my DH to give the guys before they left. Another thing I did was ship a box of home made baked goods the day DH left to go back from his R&R leave so it got there shortly after he did. A gift card to any store would also work for your brother, then he can buy whatever he wants while he’s home, and he can make the decision what he buys and it takes the stress off you. Ok, that’s my 4 cents LOL. Hope you have fun during your early Christmas!

That is awesome! I am so happy that Tommie is coming home in a few days and he is safe. I hope the remainder of his tour goes the same way. Have fun getting ready for Christmas. Now you have a great excuse to start decorating early.
