Sailing Along the Life of Single Parenthood

Whew! Is it Summer?

I am loving it.  It’s 10:20 PM and it’s 70 degrees outside and only supposed to drop another degree or two overnight.  I am ready for some warm weather.  I am ready for suntans and swimming – I’m even ready to mow the yard (yea, that won’t last long), but this warm weather has me looking outside to see what improvements are needed and which I’d like to do.  I think we are going to our local hardware store this weekend as I’ve wanted to extend the dog pen soon so they have more room to run and play, but because one is a jumper I have to have 6 foot wire and one is a digger so the bottom has to be wired too. Fence installation is not on the top of my list as fun, but something I’d like to get done soon as I feel like the current pen is just not large enough for our poor puppies.

I am going to storage tomorrow to dig out some summer clothes and take a box of winter clothes of mine and Cameron’s. We’ll still keep some of our winter clothes, but not much.  I’m ready to pack up those last ones now.  I actually love winter and the cold, but by this point, I’m ready for sunshine.  Of course by August, I’ll be ready for fall.  :)

Remember how things should be slowed down now? No more working weekends? Instead of working, I’m now being the active mom – tomorrow we have to be up bright and early for Cameron to go to softball practice, and then Becka has One Act Play practice after that.  I am going phone shopping tomorrow though so I might have something fun to talk about when I get in tomorrow.

Turning Cold

The weather here has turned cold. Today we are 10 degrees lower than our average for this time of year. It was in the 40′s this morning, and tomorrow we are supposed to wake up to near freezing temperatures. I know many across the country think that it’s no big deal and it’s been colder that that. I have even seen the pictures of snowmobiles and snowmobile exhaust, but here it’s cold – really cold. We are not cold weather people here so it’s time to start making preparations.

Stocking Up On First Aid

After our recent Ike threats, I thought about my list of “emergency supplies” and went and found some recommended lists online and I found one kind of scary place we are lacking – First Aid Supplies.  I really don’t keep much on hand.  When someone has a headache, I have to search for Tylenol or ibuprofen. If Cameron gets sick with a cold or allergy, it always requires a run to town to pick up some medicine (goodness knows I have no idea where the medicine from last time is and it’s probably expired anyways). I do USUALLY know where the bandaids are if we have a minor cut, but anything more than that, I don’t have it – period.  It’s not misplaced or expired, I just don’t keep much on hand as far as medical/First Aid Supplies go.  So one of my resolutions is to put together a high quality, thought of everything kit before the next type of threat comes our way.  I found this one website that offers almost everything you can think of (I SOO do not want to have to buy this stuff in a Brick and Mortar store so online is where I’m browsing) and offers FREE UPS shipping.  It’s called DHP, and they have everything I could think of almost to put in a bang up first aid kid.  I mean everything from child care products to surgery prep products to travel socks of all things.  With rising gas prices, I’ve started buying more and more online, but I always look for free or HIGHLY discounted shipping prices (or I might as well have spent that money on gas).  Since DHP offers free shipping, I’ve added them to my “free shipping” folder in my favorites and wanted to share them with you too just in case.

Post Ike

After Ike has caused so much destruction across south Texas, we’ve been watching the damage closely online and on the television.  One of the topics of our conversations has been that even if someone’s house is still there, it will likely be condemed by their local government as totally ruined. If not condemned they will need serious help though with water restoration for black mold removal. If this is not done carefully, black mold can become very dangerousl  It’s definitly not something you’d want to chance being behind your walls or growing as you move back into your water damaged home.  I was clueless at what this involved as we’ve never had any type of damage like this and found this great website with information – Water Restoration 911.  It’s actually quite scary the harms of not taking care of these issues, isn’t it?  I’m totatlly freaked out now.

Last Morning to Sleep In

Yes, I still technically have the weekend.  But this is my last WORK day that isn’t a work day that I got to sleep in.  I woke up at about 7, but then stayed curled up in the bed until 10 watching morning tv, but alas, Cameron then came and curled up in the bed with me. we had to get up and fix breakfast, and cut the next link off of our Cheetah Chain. I’ve decided I like this go three weeks, be off one schedule. I think we need to stick with it. :) It’s going to be hard to get back in the habit of getting up early though and being at work all day.
