Remembering 9/11
There are major events in history that we will always remember the exact moment, the feelings…everything. I know many people that can tell me exactly where they were the day/them moment they found out that JFK was shot. For me there are two of those events so far – 9/11 and The Challenger. What were you doing on that fateful day that changed the lives of so many Americans?
I was in college at Stephen F Austin State University. I can even tell you the class – Personal Law. The professor – Dr. Russell. I arrived at school early that morning – as I did each day to secure a prime parking spot so I had no clue; neither did Dr. Russell. A few of us were all sitting around visiting before class and then Dr. Russell came in and we had started a class conversation on that day’s topic when someone came into class late and told us about the first tower. The class stopped IMMEDIATELY! There was no progressing. Dr. Russell asked us to remain in the class for a moment and excused herself. she went to find out I guess what was going on. Then she came back and released us and told us that the television in the General Business office would be on the news and we were welcome to go there and watch. Many of us took her up on this offer. We got there in time to see the attack of the 2nd tower. It was mind boggling. I can remember sitting there in total shock. Then the news continued….the other attacks.
I can still remember those feelings. The horror. It was the worse thing I had ever seen in my life.
On this day, I thought about those feelings. The pride in the way our country rallied together. And multiple times today I’ve stopped to say a word of thanks to the Lord for protecting us and to our soldiers who are out there defending our freedom every day.
Do you remember September 11, 2001? How did you acknowledge it today?
