Sailing Along the Life of Single Parenthood

A Day Behind

A day late and a dollar short?  Not good when you are wanting to go shopping huh? But that’s my story today….But to be perfectly honest, shopping is not a high part of my town.  We have a grocery store, 2 dollar stores, and maybe 6 gas stations.  Yep…that’s shopping here in this rural East Texas town.  Hmm….if you are a city person who likes going to big malls or well known stores, this would not be the place for you. Our charm is our small and quietness…our friendliness – not our shopping.

Now if you want to take a little longer drive, we can drive and be at an ok town for shopping in about 45 minutes, but it’s still not that big.  If we truly want to go shopping for things like back to school clothes, Christmas shopping, etc around here….we drive THREE HOURS to Houston! Yep, you heard right – three hours!!

Road Trip Day 2

Today we continue around the blogosphere on our road trip. Today’s Topic: GAS!  We all hate it, but can’t live without it!!  Around here gas is about $3.50 if you bargain shop.  The problem? To bargain shop frequently means driving out of your way.  That kind of defeats the purpose of bargain shopping.

Saving money on gas is pretty difficult here as I live in the woods and everything is about 30 miles away – that’s 60 miles round trip. And this is for the basics groceries, expensive gas, etc. If you actually want to experience anything exciting you have to drive 45 – 60 miles.  And this is still not all that much compared to what many of you are accustomed to in the form of city life.
