Top 50 Mom Blogs

I was right. Here it is 10:00 and I don’t even feel the slightest tired. I really don’t mind this schedule. I’ve always been a night owl, but it makes going back to work sooo hard, and with less than a week before school is back in session, I will be exhausted that first week.  Since I feel like I’m going to be up for a while, I decided that I’d peruse the MomDot list of the Top 50 Mom Blogs.  Even though I feel like I surf a good number of blogs, I was amazed at how many of the sites on this list, I have never heard of. If you like to read Mom Blogs and want to make some new friends, I highly encourage you to check out this awesome list.  I’m listing the top 50 here, but if you’d like to know more about them before clicking, head over to MomDot where Trisha wrote a great writeup describing each blog.

MomDot Party Day 11

I’m still on my high from being selected as a contributing writer to the party yesterday and seeing my name and fmaily pics on MomDot, but today we must move on to the day 11 topic,

If you could only eat ONE food on Thanksgiving Day, what would it be? Do you have a homecooked meal for Thanksgiving or do you go out to eat? Does your family dress up?

With Thanksgiving so close this is surely on my mind so an easier one to write about in theory, but geez!  We have so many good foods on Thanksigiving, how could I dare choose just ONE thing? Trisha, are you for real?  I just don’t see how this could be so I’ll start with the my favorites and let’s see if I can then narrow that list down…maybe.

What do I expect at every Thanksgiving? Which food disappoint me the most if they weren’t there?

Well, there’s the obvious – TURKEY(preferably fried, though that doesn’t happen often)

Then there’s the Chicken ‘N Dumplings (yum! yum!)

And you can’t forget the mashed potatoes (My mom is one of the few people I know who still makes our mashed potatoes from POTATOES and not flakes)

And there’s her homemade Mac and Cheese (personally, I’d rather make Velveeta Shells N Cheese, but that still doesn’t compare to Momma’s)

And then we have to think about the DESSERTS…..

There’s the banana pudding (that I make) at Mom and Dad’s, but…..

Then we go to Mamaw’s for dinner and there’s the pecan pie

and chocolate pie…..

And this is where I get my fill of yummy! southern dressing…..

And for this MomDot Party Post, Trisha says I have to narrow it down to ONE…One I tell you….when there are all of those things on our table every Thanksgiving (and Christmas too actually)….has she lost it? :)

Ok, ok….I must follow the rules, right?  Now’s not the time to be the rebel.  FINE!  If I have to pick just one, I pick the mashed potatoes, no…..the dumplings…never mind….I changed my mind…I chose the pecan pie. That’s it….that’s it for sure…Well except I sure do like the topping on that chocolate pie.  But Mom rarely makes those mashed potatoes and mac and cheese.  Fine…the one thing that I only get to eat twice a year…I guess I have to go with that one. Right.  Fine….I’m going to say…the one food I can’t live without is the TURKEY!  Yep….That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Oh….and if you couldn’t tell, we eat homemade yummies every Thanksgiving and Christmas and we do it in our comfy clothes….nothing dressy or formal for us.

MomDot Party Day 9

The MomDot Party continues today with another great topic – GIFTS!  I spent last night doing a lot of gift shopping, but today’s topicis about gifts we’ve received not given…

Most unusual gift you have received? Best gift? Do you re-gift?

Wow. This is a lot harder to talk about than gifts we’ve bought huh?  I don’t know that I truly think I’ve gotten any unusual gifts.  My family has always done pretty well at picking out things I want.  The only person who doesn’t do that is one of my grandmothers.  She always buys me clothes – clothes I will never wear.  :)  I smile every year and thank her and tell her how cute they are, and then they never even get hung up and put in the closet as I KNOW that I’m not wearing them.

I’ve received lots of great gifts over the years, but I guess the best gift ever was my house.  My grandmother bought me my house and paid to have it moved and set up for me the winter of 1997 as a high school graduation, birthday and Christmas present.  Though I think we’ve outgrown it, we still live in this house.  I am so thankful even now for it as with this economy going the way it is, at least I know I don’t have a mortgage payment to make (and she’s happy as it accomplished her goal of keeping me close).

I tend to get really good gifts so it’s really not often that I even have the option of regifting though I have to admit that yes, I have done so on occasion.  When I do though, it’s not just me pawning off a gift, but instead passing on something that I know someone will like better than I do.

100,000!!!!

One of my new favorite sites, MomDot, is celebrating 100,000 visits!!  Check out this awesome thank you from Tricia.

While reaching 100K people is awesome, if not nearly an impossible feat when we started out on this journey, it definitely was not something that we here at MomDot did alone, by any means. I couldn’t possibly start thanking every person individually, because there isn’t even enough time in the day, and I hope I have said thank you to those along the way as they gave up their time, their blog space, their advice, and their creativity.

We have written 825 Posts total on momdot from our preopening till now.

However, I did want to do a few things.

Thank you to those in the beginning that really helped set UP MomDot and get us off the ground. Some of these girls didn’t even know who I was, just some random person on the net, and they still gave up something. No particular order!
