Sailing Along the Life of Single Parenthood

Good Monday Morning

As I sit here today I’m so excited.  Why? Because it’s Monday and I’m NOT at work.  Yep.  I know we got out of school Friday, but to me it’s not officially vacation until it’s a day that I should be at work and I’m not…so today is the first official day of vacation.

Today I’ve got 3 main tasks to accomplish.

  1. Get my car diagnosed (while praying the entire time that it’s something minor that my dad hasn’t thought of)
  2. Wrap presents and make a final list to be sure I know who is left on my list.
  3. Get a solid To Do list created for vacation and prioritize it so that I can do more than lay around this vacation.  :)

I have a lot of ideas in my head of things to accomplish, but what am I going to actually focus on this break? I have some items that go directly to the top, but then some others like looking at unfied communications solutions as my mom has been recommending that I look into combining my many communication/tv bills as she thinks it would be cheaper. I’m not so sure, but going to price it.

Another thing on my hoep to do, but not so sure about is having my satellite Internet receive some at home tech support. It seems that it’s cutting out a lot lately and that drives me crazy. A tech call costs at least $200 though.  I’ve put it off for 6 months, but if my car doesn’t destroy my world when I get that estimate today, then I may just have to call and have the guy come out. I received a new modem this past summer, but when I tried to change it out, I couldn’t get it to work.  After calling and talking to all the foreign tech support that I have a horrible time trying to understand, they diagnosed it as needing an at home visit.  *Sigh*  For the most part I LOVE living in the country, but I hate country Internet options.  :(

Have a great Monday!

What Are Your Holiday Plans

Since I’m officially on Christmas vacation and I know it will be flying by so I am trying to come up with a list of what I want to accomplish during this week. I got a call from a friend today saying that she had made Las Vegas hotel reservations for her and a couple other single friends (but none of them are parents).

At the top of my list – figuring out what is wrong with my car, praying it isn’t too costly, and then getting it fixed.  I’m not sure what is going on, but yesterday after work a co-worker and I decided to go out to a movie. I followed her to her apartment and then we loaded up in my car to head to the movie.  When I put my car in reverse, it didn’t want to go.  It did finally go, but it was shaky.  When I shifted to drive, it shook more.  It really didn’t want to go.  We circled the parking lot, and it seemed ok.  We headed off.  As we continued, every time we went to start, it didn’t want to and would hesitate and shake a little.  After it gets going though, it’s driving fine.  I call my dad, but he doesn’t really know beyond that it sounds like something to do with the transmission.  I go to his house after the movie, he checks the transmission fluid..it’s good.  He drives it…notices the same thing I do, but still doesn’t really know beyond he’s pretty sure it’s transmission related.  So today (when I thought I might finish my Christmas shopping), I stayed home in fear of causing major problems. We’re going to hit a few shops on Monday to see if we can find out more.  Wish me luck.

What else? Well I need to do some lesson plans. I’d like to have a solid day to day plan for at least six weeks when we go back. I woudl like to have them so complete that I run to the school one day and make all the copies I’ll need and such.

I want the house to be much cleaner. I have a hard time keeping up when we’re going to school with our crazy hours so I’ll be super cleaning each room of the hosue as we go – dusting, washing windows, etc.

And I want to exercise a little fiercer so that I can get a jump on losing some weight. I will continue to participate in Think Thin Thursday hosted by The Not-So-Blog Blog. We just finished Week 6 and I’ve been successful so far at drinking a lot more water and getting some moderate exercise going.  So this week I’m going to turn my focus to more vigorous exercise and weight loss – or at least stability in my weight.  My goal is to ABSOLUTELY gain NO weight and hopefully to start losing just a little. So my goal for the upcoming week:

  • 4 glasses/bottles of water a day
  • 4 days of 45 minute intense exercise
  • No weight gain

And finally, I want to redesign this blog for post Christmas and find a new host as I’ve had a horrible experience lately with my sites uptimes and then had a messy customer service experience recently.

Do you have any goals for the holidays?  I’d love to know your plans…..

Tomorrow’s Christmas

Yes. Tomorrow we will be celebrating our first Christmas of the season so I may not be around much (one of the reasons I’m trying to finish up some of the most pressing reviews today….sorry for so many at once)…I’ll have a Sunday Smile in the morning, but that might be it until evening.

We are celebrating with my brother who will be leaving Thursday to head back to Iraq to finish his tour before coming home in the Spring.  I’m excited. I love Christmas and have always secretly loved having extended family and two sets of parents because it did mean multiple Christmases and I love the joy and peace during a family Christmas.

VACATION TIME – FINALLY

WOW!!  I was so happy to see the clock move this morning. The closer it moved to 11:50 am, the happier I was.  Today was our last day of school before Thanksgiving break.  We’ve not had to go to school at all the entire week of Thanksgiving for at least the last 8 years I know so I was so upset when I saw the calendar for this year and we had to go Monday and Tuesday.  But all of that is now over, and vacation has started.  I have so many things planned for this time off including some lazy time planned.  Plus, I have a ton of reviews and contests coming up now that I have time to sit and write the posts up!!  Stay close and read a lot for many exciting posts coming up.

CBS Early Show Mega Deals

Ever watch the CBS Early Show? I’m not a regular viewer, but I’m proud to tell you about these awesome Kmart sales that they recently talked about.  In fact these sales are so great, that Kmart can’t actually publish all the prices on their site.  To find out, you have to add the items to your cart. When you do this, obviously, you’ll see the price of the items.  You know when there’s a limit on something or the price is so slow that it can’t be published, that there are some awesome deals.  This Kmart sale is no exception.

A couple of the deals are:

  • - Women’s Kimono Wrap Sweater Extra 10% off online only (search ID# 70198911)
  • - Abbey Hill bedding Medallion Dream bedding collection – Extra 30% online only (search ID# 96096112)
  • - 1/4ct tw Diamond 5-Stone Journey Pendant and Earrings Set in 10K Yellow Gold with Extra 10% off online only (search ID# 89270115)
While these are some of the best deals, they aren’t nearly all.  In addition to these special sales (so low you have to check prices in the shopping cart), there are many other categories that you can receive 10% off throughout the month of December.  These categories include:
  • - womens plus sleepwear
  • - womens attention brand
  • - girls tops
  • - ALL juniors
  • - boys tops
  • - mens shirts and bottoms
  • - big mens shirts and bottoms
  • - infant and toddler bedding
I have to admit that there are some other stores that tend to be more convenient for me so I’ve done little shopping at Kmart in the past, but after having these opportunities to blog to you about all of the sales and positive steps Kmart is taking in helping us spread our dollars and provide our children with a Merry Christmas, I’m going to start going out of my way to stop in (and do some online shopping!).
Tip:  As you browse the Kmart website from now until Christmas, keep your eyee out for hidden ornaments through out the site. They will provide you with extra savings via a special coupon code.
