Congress At Their Worst?

Ok…before i start this tangent, I will admit that I only caught a snipped of this on the news when I went to pick up some packages from my mom’s, but what I’ve heard so far just makes me want to SCREAM.  Someone please let me know if I’ve misunderstood this, but instead of staying just a day or two more (or even a week) and voting for energy policies, the Democrats refused and went on a 5 week vacation?  I’m excited to see gas under $4.00 which I think is absolutely crazy and Congress doesn’t think they can work a day or two more and consider a policy that may lower my gas prices? Now I’m not saying the policy is or isn’t the answer. I’m not saying it would in fact make gas prices go down – but our elected officials, those people we’ve elected to look out for our best interests, couldn’t even CONSIDER a policy that was alleging that it might help us out just a little before they go on a FIVE week vacation? Apparently us teachers aren’t the only ones with great vacations, huh?  UGH!!!  I am so disgusted at the moment.

Ok…stepping off my soapbox now…please forgive me. This just really has me hot.

$3.68 = Lines, LONG Lines

Yes..gas today at our local grocery store was $3.68 and I had to wait behind TWO cars to get gas.  I know I need to adjust, but this still just blows my mind – $3.68 and we are excited!  So excited we are all filling up our cars with gas!!  In my defense, I actually NEEDED gas to get home, but I would have probably still been in the line – even if not in that situation. I actually was able to fill up for $3.61 as you get a discount every time you spend $100 on groceries. I’m not old – really I’m not, but gas prices are one of the things that make me feel old. I worked at a local grocery store that also had gas pumps in high school and even the first couple years of college, and do you know how much gas  was then?  $0.86 a gallon!!  That’s how much!! Less than a $1.00 and now we are excited to see it less than FOUR DOLLARS!!! WOW!!

Damnit!!!

Yes. I was as shocked at those words when they came out of my mouth as you may be to see them as my title. I don’t tend to curse a lot. And I for sure don’t do it in public. It’s saved for times with no children around and usually only my closer friends. But alas, as I was in line at our local dollar store yesterday morning, the checker rang up my ONE item and gave me the total, my instant response was “Damnit!” Yes, I said it outloud, I was mortified. Really. I bet I turned every shade of red.  Let me explain….

Every summer I have to purchase one thing. No it’s not a bathing suit or sunscreen. It’s a gas can. For some reason every winter my gas cans disappear. I really don’t think someone steals them, but they do grow legs and go somewhere. My current blame is on the neighborhoods dogs. Yes, they are my scapegoats to most things that go wrong around here, but that’s an entirely different rant.  So yesterday morning I needed to start my mowing so I ran to town to pick up a cheap gas can from the dollar store.  It was $8.00!!!!!  Do you hear me?!  Oh, yes. Actually, no…it was EIGHT DOLLARS AND TWENTY-ONE CENTS!!! for a two gallon gas can from a freakin’ dollar store.  It cost more than the DAMN expensive gas that I had to go put in it!!

Ok. I promise to not let my blog turn into posts and more posts of rants, but I appreciate you listening..err. reading… and I feel much better getting that off my chest. :)
