Continuing the Health Kick

I’ve done it – gone two weeks now of working out at least 6 days a week, and I’m starting to feel better. I’m not so sure I’m losing weight or inches yet, but I’ve got a little more energy.  That’s a wonderful feeling.  I am going to try to pick up the pace of the work out this week as I’ve now got these 2 weeks going, I think maybe I have the habit started…not it’s time to work on intensity so that I start burning more calories.

I went by the health store about a month ago and looked at nutritional health supplements thinking maybe being tired all the time was because I was lacking some vitamin or something, but it looks like the exercise is going to do it.

Wish me luck as I pick up the pace this week!

Think Thin Thursday on Friday

Yes, I know I’m a day late on my Think Thin post, but I wanted to be sure to get back in the habit before I start letting my habits slip like my weekly posts have.  I was relieved when I went to check in with Bridgette to find that she had not been posting (so maybe i wasn’t missed?).  I have been working hard at watching the diet, drinking the water, and only 3 days of exercise still, but I’m sticking with those 3 days.  My life will take a big notch down next week so I plan to try to pick up the exercise goals after this week.  I’ve been think of buying a treadmill so that I can put a little more variety in my exercise, but I’m not sure since it’s getting warmer and I’ll be able to walk outside soon. So to sum up my progress lately – I’m sticking to the plan, not a lot, nothing great, but I’m staying on track with plans to pick up the pace after one mroe week.

A New Year of Think Thin Thursdays

With all of my Internet connection woes, my new years posts that I’ve been thinking about and drafting are maybe not even going to be posted, but I wanted to take a moment to blog about a wonderful weekly blogging opportunity if one of your New Year goals (I like that better than resolutions that are tossed aside so quickly) is to  lose weight, get fit or lead a more healthy lifestyle.  I’m hoping to do a little of each of those so I’ll be happily participating in Think Thin Thursdays over at The Not-So-Blog Blog.

So what are my my New Year’s Resolutions?  I haven’t really sat down and thought yet (sad, I know)…but I can tell you off hand that I want to do the following three goals (I read somewhere that you’ll never accomplish your list if you let it get too long so we shall see):

  1. lose weight, get fit or lead a more healthy lifestyle (hopefully by increasing the amount of healthy cooking and decreasing the precooked and fast food meals for myself and my family
  2. Get in a better financial situation than I was on January 1st
  3. I have 3 fairly large blogging ideas.  I hope to accomplish at least 2 of those this year.

Good luck to everyone and if you haven’t already, go sign up and join in the fun at Think Thin Thursdays….you know we all need to at least do one of the Thursday goals.

My Think Thin Goals for the first week of January 2009 -

  1. 3 bottles of water a day (I’ve been slacking the last two weeks)
  2. 3 days of at least 30 minutes of exercise

I’ll be back next Thursday (or whenever I have Internet) to let you know how it goes. Thanks Bridgette for the help in accomplishing my goals.

Think Thursday Week 5

Yes..I know it’s Saturday and I’m behind, but I honestly haven’t even turned on the computer at home lately – that’s how busy life has been. I”m not sure if Bridgette has closed this week’s post and drawn for prizes, but I still wanted to do my weekly post.

I’ve completed this week’s objectives successfully.  Next week, my goal is one soda a day maximum and 4 bottles of water a day.  This will be a crazy week with school so I’m going to set the goal of 3 45 minute sessions of exercise. I think I can do it, but with life crazy it will take discipline…..

I have started running into some difficulties with this cold weather though – why? Because cold weather in my family means morning hot cocoa.  Yes…I have a hot cocoa maker and we make hot cocoa each morning to drink on our way to school.  I refuse to give up this pleasure, but have been looking for ways to make it better.  My first and most successful item maybe is that I have not squirted any whip cream on the top of my hot cocoa – not once!  I still give the girls their topping, but I pass on my mug.  Second, I’m buying 1% milk for the hot cocoa in hopes of making it a little healthier for all of us.

Curious about Think Thin Thursday?  Think Thin Thursday is a group of bloggers who are working together to make ourselves make wiser choices concerning our eating and exercise.  The group is hosted by Bridgette at The Not So Blog Blog……and as we meet our goals, Bridgette has found sponsors to award prizes to one lucky particpant each week.  Think you’d like to join? Thursday Think Thin: Task of the Week

This week’s task in our Thursday Think Thin group is to answer the question:

Tell us one temptation that you were faced with this week. How did you overcome it?

For me this week that has been the quantity of food I’ve consumed.  My dad has taken me out to eat twice in the last week, my students through a birthday party for another student, our superintendent had a eating celebration meeting for our great school marks after school Wednesday, my grandmother invited us to dinner, and the PTSO make Thanksgiving dinner for the teachers.  Yes, I’ve been around A LOT of food this week, and somehow, had to not overeat.

In each of these situations that were dinners, I’ve fixed myself a full plate, but then deliberately left half of each item and taken it to work for lunch the next day.  This way I split one large meal into two reasonable ones.
