Prescription Drug Abuse

It has been brought to our attention that more and more of our students are turning to a new drug – prescriptions. Whether it be their friends, parents, or just some they buy from an acquaintance, they are finding them somewhere. It seems that overall they aren’t even picky about what they take. They will take almost anything just to see how it makes them feel. They also do not pay any attention to what they mix together. It’s all about the here and now and instant. It’s not just a problem with teenagers either, it’s estimated that 20% of American have used prescription drugs for non-medical reasons. Curious after our inservice I began doing some research and found that drug rehabs are now facing the same new problem of dealing with prescription drug addiction. I try to be informed about such problems so I can educate my students. I’ll continue researching and let you know if I find anything else interesting.
