So I’m asking you to help me help Carissa and the TSC.

Head over and enter the I Love Christie Cookies contest and nominate the TSC.

And spread the word and ask everyone you know to vote too!! And if you vote for the TSC, I’ll give you 10 entries into any contests for the entire month of August hosted at Southern Girl Reviews or A Novel Mind!! Just be sure to put 10 comments on the contests after you vote!

A New Job in the Blogosphere

If you read my blog much, you know that one of my favorite sites in the mom blog site MomDot.  I was so excited when Trisha gave me the honor of being one of the Mom Dot Forum “momdoterators.”  I can’t stand to go more than just a few hours without checking in at the MomDot group of sites.  Last week I told you about Trisha’s newest expansion of the MomDot community of sites called Blogger’s Give. This is (I think) one of the best ideas yet in the blogosphere.  Trisha along with several other mom bloggers have joined together to form a group of review/contest bloggers who donate items to a charity of the group’s choice.  Check out my previous post about Blogger’s Give to see how it all works (and how you can help).  Last night I was given maybe my biggest blogging honor yet – the chance to be on the Blogger’s Give Street Team. I don’t do too many reviews/giveaways yet (though I am trying to slowly enter that field), but now I will still have a way of being active with this great group of bloggers in contributing to some very great causes.  I am so excited!  And if you are a blogger and haven’t heard of Blogger’s Give, I highly encourage you to head over and see how you can contribute to this awesome cause.

Bloggers CAN Make A Difference

ATTENTION TO ALL REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY BLOGGERS:  It is true, you can make a difference.

4 Bloggers have joined together and formed a new blog – a blog with a cause.  The blog is called Blogger’s Give and is run by the ladies who run MomDot, What’s That Smell?, MomStart, and Jessica Knows.

So what is Blogger’s Give? Blogger’s Give is asking those of us that run reviews and giveaways to ask those awesome companies we work with to donate one additional item besides the one they are giving you for review (or the two they are giving you to review and giveaway) and donate it to Blogger’s Give.  Each month the ladies over at Blogger’s Give will choose a charity and all donated items for that month will be sent to that charity. The first cause that was chosen by Blogger’s Give is The Center for Courageous Kids.

So if you are a blogger who does reviews or contests, I strongly encourage you to consider asking for that extra item to be sent directly to Blogger’s Give.  Really, the only thing you have to do is ask. From there it is handled by Blogger’s Give. Trisha has even written the request for you in a form letter that you can send to the  companies and PR representatives you deal with each time you are setting up a review or giveaway.

What do you get for being a participating blogger in Blogger’s Give?  Well first you get the self satisfaction of knowing you are helping others.  But if this is not enough for, you’ll receive a few tokens from Blogger’s Give.  From the Blogger’s Give Site:

Every time we receive a product donation on behalf of your blog’s giveaway or review, we will do the following:

  • Promote the giveaway on your site of participating product in a post we run once a week
  • Promote the review on your site of participating products in a post we run once a week
  • A list under our Blog Listings that is permanent
  • The blogger who donates the most product throughout the month will receive our Blogger of the Month award and be permanently listed on our sidebars the rest of the year
  • The blogger who donates the most product at the end of the year will be awarded a $100 gift certificate to any store of their choosing

Don’t think you can convince your PR reps or business to donate?  On top of the warm feeling in their heart, Trisha says that Blogger’s Give will do this for them:

  • A link listing permanently under our donating companies
  • A 125/125 banner on the sidebar (if sent to us) for the month they donate
  • The companies that donate the most product via a blogger per month will recieve a banner ad that rotates throughout the 4 Bloggers Give blogger sites (Mom Generations, Simbaco Lifestyle, MomDot and Accideintal Mommies)

My Brother Is

on his way home from Iraq.  Yes, he was just here on leave, but now his entire troop is headed home.  He said there’s a chance he’ll be here by SUNDAY!!  My other brother is trying to get into the Air Force, but he has some major damage to his head from a wreck several years ago and they are probably not going to accept him. If they do, he’ll have to keep trying for a long time the recruiter told him. He met a guy that told him last week that it took his recruiter 6 months to get him in (I’m not sure my brother will stick with it that long).  He REALLY wants to get in though and I think it would be SOOOO good for him so I’m praying that somehow the Lord will work a miracle and they’ll find a way to get him into the military.

Being from a military family (before my brothers both my grandfather and uncle were in the Navy), I’ve always looked for ways to support our troops and I think that Sears heroes at home Wish Registry may be one of the neatest ways I’ve found. What is it?  It’s simply a place for our troops and their families to register for a wish registry.  From there you can make donations (that go towards gift cards that are passed out to make those wishes come true).

Watch this video for more information

And if you are looking for a way to help a family in need, please consider helping a military family. Note: Donations are NOT tax deductible.

Do You Believe?

As I have been preparing for the MomDot Christmas Party, I have been doing a lot of thinking about the holidays and what they really mean.  And maybe more important than that – what have I taught my daughter about the spirit of the holidays?

As I’ve thought about this, I was so happy to see an email telling me how Macy’s is showing that they understand the true meaning of the holidays is not about them making record profits during the winter shopping season, but instead about recognizing the needs of others.

How are they doing this? With their “Million Reasons to Believe” promotion.  Macy’s across the country are setting up mailboxes where children can leave their stamped letters to Santa, and in exchange Macy’s will donate $1 per letter (up to a $1,000,000) to The Make A Wish Foundation and then deliver the letters to the Post Office to be forwarded on to Santa.

We all let our little ones write letters to Santa, and you probably stamp and mail those letters for your children.  I strongly encourage you to add that step this year of taking the letter to Macy’s so that you show your devotion to the holiday spirit of love and charity.
