Sailing Along the Life of Single Parenthood

How was Your Valentine’s Day?

So – Valentine’s Day is officially over. How was your day? Full of romance? Just another day?

Mine for sure did not start out with a lot of hope in being a good day. I had to work today. Dad and I were going to the same location so he was going to swing by and pick me up. The one bright spot in the day? Cameron said she was going to go with me instead of going to my grandmother’s for the day.

There lied the first few “bummers” of the day. When did I wake up? When Dad was knocking on the door!! Oh yea! I was still in the bed sleeping soundly when I should have been READY TO LEAVE!?! Ok, you probably do not know this, but I am not a morning person – not even a slight morning person – I HATE MORNINGS! I think talking should not be allowed until I have been awake for at least 3 hours. And now I am running late and do not get a steamy shower to wake me up so things are not looking good.

Cameron comes bopping into the living room (can you believe she had been awake for a LONG time and didn’t wake me up?). I asked her if she was still going with me today. She nods yes, and I head into the bathroom to at least brush my teeth and wash my face. As I come out, I hear Cameron’s 4 Wheeler crank. Ummm….what part of that nod yes did I not understand?

So I start my Valentine’s morning by oversleeping, not getting a shower, not getting breakfast, not getting any hugs or kisses from my baby, and not even spending the day with her! GREAT! (yes I’m aware of all the !! and that Trisha says we shouldn’t do this, but this post is full of emotion and I need EXCLAMATION!) At this point, I honestly hadn’t even thought of it being Valentine’s Day.

Well we get to work, and actually the day goes pretty well. I was judging a debate tournament, and I always enjoy my time with my fellow debate coaches and teachers. I remember that it is Valentine’s during the day also (and I realize how crappy my day has been).

During my downtime I get this blog moved over to my new host. And I think it moved smoothly. Of course I could be typing on the old host right now and end up losing this post. Hopefully not though.

The work day ends, and all I can think about – A HOT SHOWER!!! I can’t stand not having a shower in the mornings. I just feel yucky. I am anxious to just get home and get my shower, and then figure I’ll spend the rest of my Valentine’s cleaning house. (What fun!)

We pull up, and there is a note on the door. I wonder what it is and decide that it is probably from Cameron saying she went out somewhere with my grandmother. I gather my things and head in – Dad leaves. I get to the door and it’s a Happy Valentine’s Note from my teenager – Becka. Aww. Ok. My day is majorly turning around. I’ve got tears in my eyes over this simple piece of computer paper taped to the door saing “Happy Valentine’s Day. Have a bright day.” (I LOVE YOU BECKA!)

I open the door and notice the living room is picked up. That’s odd. I know I left it a mess this morning. In fact that was something else I was ticked off about this morning – I was trying to get ready as fast as possible because Dad was roaming around my VERY MESSY HOUSE! I think Becka must have come home for a while and picked it up. “Isn’t she sweet?” I had grabbed the mail (of course it is all junk mail) so I head to the kitchen to throw it away, and THE KITCHEN IS FREAKING CLEAN! AND I MEAN CLEAN!! Wow. Becka picked up the living room and kitchen?!?! Ok. Now don’t tell anyone but those wet eyes I had at the sign on the door? Well, now there’s just a little bit of moisture leaking out of my eye. I have been working major hours and been so tired and she did the one thing for me that I was dreading the most – she cleaned up the house. I feel like this is one of the best Valentine’s ever.

I head to my room to grab my towels so I can take my shower (after sending Becka a text message telling her how thankful I am that she came to be a member of our family and that I love her). When I walk in my room, my bed is covered with clean clothes. SHE DID LAUNDRY TOO!!! Now this time, my eyes are watering pretty heavily (shh! that is our secret).

Cameron comes home as I’m preparing for my shower so I get to spend the rest of the evening with her. That makes me even happier. Not long after getting out of the shower, Daddy calls and wants to know if we want to go eat Mexican food in town (duh! I never turn down free food!). When we get back, I feel slightly energized so I spend HOURS and I do mean hours working on my new blog. I am slow but steady, and at this time (it is 4:00 AM), I think I have it pretty much ready to go. Now I just have to get to reading and get some quality content on there.

So my Valentine’s had a rough start, but the further in the day we progressed, the better it go.

How was your Valentine’s? I’d love to hear. After all this post was all inspired after reading about Toni’s Valentine’s trip to Wal-Mart. Join us and share your Valentine’s story by blog post or comments.

Aww…that was so sweet! I wish someone cleaned my house for Valentine’s Day! I ended up being sick, so I napped, and took DayQuil so I could go out to lunch with my hubby. He did arrange for a babysitter and everything, so I figured we better go out.
