Happy Memorial Day (& How I’m Celebrating)

Today’s Memorial Day stands out more than those of the past for me – this year it is personal. This year my brother is in Iraq. This year it’s not a holiday in theory - it’s a holiday of fact.  This year I can relate to many military families here in this country that we have freedom thanks to the men and women who have and are currently serving to defend our freedoms.  So at this time, I thank you our proud military (of past and present) for doing what so many of us choose not to do!

I’ve had a spur of the moment decision on what we’ll do this day. I decided this morning that I wanted to cook outside today so I headed to the grocery store for some steaks and potatoes.  While grocery shopping, I happened to notice turkey legs in the meat department and thought, “Wow! I’ve never cooked turkey legs before.” So I tossed them in the shopping cart and brought them home instead of the steaks.  I got online to look for a recipe for turkery legs and then thought duh! I don’t have many of the recommended items for seasoning the turkey legs and pretty much ever recipe called for overnight (or at least several hours) of marinating before the actual cooking, but today’s Memorial Day. Today’s the day I want to cook my turkey legs, and something you may not know about me is that I’m stubborn and do not give in to reason sometimes. So I have read about a dozen different sets of instructions on how to cook these tasty treats, and I am now combining and modifying those versions and cooking my turkey legs TODAY! I am recording my steps with words and pictures and will write up a post tonight to let you know if it’s a success or a total failure (I’m  hoping for somewhere in the middle).

Happy Memorial Day!!
