Death to My Television
I can’t believe it. The television in my bedroom is at most 6 years old. I watched the local morning news Friday before going to work as I do each morning before work. When it was time to leave, I turned it off and went to work - as usual!! Cameron went home with my grandmother after our Grandparent’s Day celebration at school Friday so I stayed and worked in my room for a while. Finally left and came home. Decided to just go curl up in bed here with you guys and read some blogs while I listened to the news…..there was only one problem. I pushed the power button on the remote and nothing happened.
Thinking it was probably just a problem with the remote. After all, I have no idea when the last time I put batteries in it was so I just dropped the remote and walked over to the tv and pushed the power button directly on the tv…um..wait…now we have a problem…because nothing happened!
So I push the button harder…that will work right? It’s just asleep and needs a good nudge to wake up…nope, no luck…still no tv. So I think maybe the breaker is thrown. So I reach down and attempt to turn on the other two items plugged in here…the satelite box and dvd player…both come on. This can not be good.
Well as a computer technician the first thing we always asked people to do before we came to fix their computers was to unplug it for a few minutes and plug it back in. So a tv is electronic too…I’ll try that. Nope, nada…no power. Maybe it just needs longer to be unplugged. I’ll leave it unplugged over night. Wake up Saturday morning. Plug it back in. Nope….still not working. Now I’m aggravated.
Take the television and move it out of the bedroom and plug it in in another room…maybe there is something wrong with the plug. Yes, I know the other two devices are working, but still…this is a new tv in television years. It should still have many, many years left. Of course, I already knew this, but it still didn’t work.
So I start calling around - who has an extra tv I can borrow for a while. I really don’t want to buy a new tv!!! (Do you hear the whining?). Only one I find that will fit in the spot where my tv must go in my small bedroom - my brother’s who’s in Iraq so doesn’t need it. It’s a tiny flatscreen. TINY! Now, I’m not complaining…it’s free and gives me time to start shopping around for a good deal, but I’m still annoyed. My tv is dead, I’m using a little 19″ tv (maybe), and I have to find something to do with this dead tv. It can’t sit in my living room floor forever!!!
