Where to Next?

As you’ve probably guessed, vacationing is important to me. I want my girls to have seen the world outside of East Texas.  So by the time we finish a vacation, I’m already actively planning the next one. One place (I know I’ve mentioned) that I really want to take them is New York (actually the entire New England area) and visiting the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) is one thing on my list of must do’s in New York and thanks to the newsletter subscription and services such as the online travel guide offered by Trusted Tours, I think we’ll have this opportunity (among many others).

For less than $20 each Trusted Tours will provide us with tickets to the Top of the Deck Observation Deck at the Rockefeller Center and also provides many other New York tours. I’m also considering using some of their information for our 2010 Orlando trip as they offer tours and discounts to many Orlando attractions outside of Disney (which I’d like to take advantage of as we’ll have a lengthy vacation that summer).

I admit to receiving a lot of junk mail that I delete without opening or even glancing at to be honest, but the Trusted Tours newsletter is not one of those. I always open these emails and even if I can’t plan a trip to the locations, I dream of when I might be able to sometime in the future.  If you do not receive it and you like to travel, you might like to check it out. If you sign up now, you’ll also be entered in a drawing for a $150 Magellan Gift Certificate.  Who couldn’t spend $150?

Disney Trip Report: Day 1 (Aug 6)

Ok..we are not technically in Disney yet, but since we did leave home, we are officially on our vacation right? So I wanted to start with a trip report. I hope to be able to get into my blog on dialup at Disney, but I’m not sure if I will have the patience.  If I can, I’ll post my trip report every day for the previous day, but if not, I’ll post the rest when I get home.

Today I got up at 5:30 to be sure I was wide awake and ready to check us  in with Southwest Airlines at 6:30 (the most important 24 hour mark).  I also wanted to be sure our Internet was working, and if not, have time to make it to town to my mom and dad’s and use their Internet.  I had the page ready and the confirmation information typed in and ready at 6:20. Not knowing how my time compared to Southwest’s, I started trying to login at 6:25 every few seconds.  Finally at 6:32 by my time I was able to log in and we were officially checked in with a loading order of A19, 20 and 21.  However, there was a problem, I couldn’t print the boarding passes. The printer wouldn’t print (isn’t that always how it works?).  I restarted the computer though and printed them without a problem. (Thank Goodness!)

Next I worked on some other little crafts and goodies I wanted to print. And then worked here on my blog for the next hour or so. I wanted to be sure to cover some topics I had on my to do list ,and I had some paid reviews to finish up before we left as well as some Sunshine offers and such.

I got the girls up at 8:30 and we finished up loading the last of our suitcases and went to the school where Becka had a student council meeting. While there we looked at one of the Disney travel books we have . On the cover is a picture of Expedition Everest. Cameron looked at it, flipped through and found the description of it and informed me that it should be called “Expedition Neverest.”  I thought this was quite clever of her. Yes, she’s my little scared one who doens’t like fast, drops, dark, or upside down. After the meeting we ran by the bank and post office to take care of last minute details and headed to Houston!

After being on the road for about an hour, I could tell the girls were getting bored. I had an answer for that - a gift bag of Disney goodies they didn’t know about. I told Cameron where it was, and she pulled it out and the girls went through their new Disney travel stuff. I bought 3 books (Hidden Mickey’s, Treasure Hunt, and Trivia), a starter set of pins for them to trade, Disney magic grow towels, and Disney pedometers.  Becka napped some on the trip, but Cameron went through and read the books the entire trip.

We arrived here at Misty’s at about 3 and sat around and visited for a little while before heading out to the mall to do some wedding dress shopping. Yes, she’s getting married Saturday (a small simple wedding so last minute is ok) and we got to help pick out her dress!!  I also had to hit Payless as when we went to pack last night we realized Cameron had no athletic shoes that fit. We haven’t bought back to school shoes and she’s outgrown last years.  We picked up a cute pair of tennis and then sat around the rest of the evening at Misty’s for Wii Fit and Mario Kart time.  We also headed over to Catherine’s blog to watch some Disney ride videos and get ourselves even more in the mood before turning in. We’ll be aiming to leave here at 3, by 3:30 at the latest, in the morning so it’s important to get our rest.

Hello from Hobby

I found a card that gave us 15 free minutes of Internet here at the airport so I let Becka use it for 7 minutes and I wanted to take my 7 minutes to come here and check in with everyone.  We arrived here at Hobby in great timing this morning.  Actually Southwest didn’t even have the counter open to check our luggage and we had to wait aboutg 45 minutes for that.  They tell you to report in 2 hours early, but they were not open 2 hours before our flight..hmmm!!

Anyways, it’s now 6:03 pm and we are supposed to take off at 6:35.  Everything so far has gone incredibly smooth.  Love you guys and can’t wait to arrive back to DISNEY!!!!

We’re In Houston!!

We arrived in Houston today around 2:30 to the best news. My friend that I always come visit and that we’re staying with tonight is getting married this weekend!!  It’s so exciting. I’m so happy for her.  And of course we are also excited that we are in HOUSTON!!  We fly out at 6:30 in the morning, and we’re an hour from the airport so I don’t want to even think about yet what time we need to get up, but it’s going to be EARLY!  We ran to the mall this afternoon to find a wedding dress (and we realized when we went to pack that Cameron didn’t own a pair of athletic shoes that fit except her cleats so she has a new pair of shoes).

I gave the girls a goody bag after we got underway today with 3 Disney books (Hidden Mickey, Trivia, and Treasure Hunts - all shown on my Library page), some pins for trading, a Disney pedometer for Becka, a Disney coloring book for Cameron. They read the books the entire 3 1/2 hours here. I was so excited.

Boarding Passes - CHECK!!

Yes, Hedy (commented in previous concerned post about our boarding passes) it worked without fail. I restarted the computer, logged back into Southwest and we still have boarding order A 19, 20 and 21.  I’m so glad.  Last time (in December) we were further back, and I much prefer to get loaded and be settled in as soon as possible. Plus with three of us, I want to be sure we don’t get separated all over the plane!

All that’s left now is to actually make it to Houston. I’m at the school now waiting on Becka’s student council meeting to be over and we are offically on our way!!!  The excitement is VERY high here today!!
