Sailing Along the Life of Single Parenthood

Oh nO! Oh MY! IT’s FriDAy tHe 13tH!!!!

Last week in Friday Night Live, we discussed this upcoming Friday and that it was Friday the 13th.  From there I got to thinking – where did all of this Friday the 13th stuff start?  I’ve heard about Friday the 13th all my life – my eight year old knows it’s a “bad luck” day, and we’ve never discussed it.  So I started searching, and after making it through all the movie stuff, you will find some Friday the 13th Facts below:

Theories of Where Bad Luck Friday Began:

  • Biblical times – maybe the crusification was the 13th or Adam eating the Apple
  • Christians have traditionally been wary of Fridays because Jesus was crucified on a Friday.
  • Chaucer allusion in The Canterbury Tales
  • 17th & 19th Century Western Literature
  • Black Friday – fall of Wall Street

Where Did the #13 come from?

  • The Last Supper – Judas was the 13th guest
  • 18th Century Superstition that 13 people at a table meant one would soon die
  • Later this 13 people group theory was extended to rooms, ships, etc.
  • By the 19th Century, room 13′s were eliminated in hotels, floor 13s in buildings
  • Could have been considered pagan because there are 13 months in the pagan lunar calendar.

When did the two merge to Friday the 13th?

  • Did not become bad luck until the 20th Century
  • 1913 Notes & Queries first written reference to Friday the 13th
  • In British tradition, Friday was the conventional day for public hangings, and there were supposedly 13 steps leading up to the noose.

Terms

  • triskaidekaphobia -  fear of the number 13
  • paraskevidekatriaphobia – fear of Friday the 13th

Teaser Tuesdays

I’m trying to introduce a new set of meme’s this week (as you could see yesterday).  My Tuesday meme for the week is Teaser Tuesday by Should Be Reading.

TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:

  • Grab your current read.
  • Let the book fall open to a random page.
  • Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
  • You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
  • Please avoid spoilers!

I’m currently reading 6th Target by James Patterson.

“Dead girl. Dead end,” Conkin said, running his hands through his hair. “The kidnappers have no problem with murder. And that’s all we know.

Tuesday Toot

I’m not usually one to “toot” about myself, but this week I was so excited because I actually had something to write about.  Yep – I have something to toot about myself.  There’s not telling the hours, the weekends, I’ve spent away from home since school started with my debaters.  We’ve worked hard.  And last Thursday we went to our district competition.  It was a nerve wracking day.  I couldn’t eat, couldn’t sit still….while I waited on the teams to debate and hear results.  At that point, it was totally out of my hands, but thanks to the work put in by not only myself, but my debaters, we came home with the District Championship!!  Now all that work has paid off!!

A New Meme: Truth or Dare

Jess over at Nothing But Purple is starting a new meme for Thursdays (yes, I know today is Friday but I just found out about it today). It’s called Truth or Dare and it’s a simple meme to join in each week. Each Thursday Jess will post Truth or Dare options.  Truth being you respond in the comments or on your blog if you’ve done that one thing or not and Dare being something you write about on your blog or do a vlog about it.

This week’s Truth was,

How many piercings do have?

So I have 4 – two holes in each ear.  There you go! Now I’ve reaveled my truth, Jess!  Want to play along? Just head over and let Jess know you are playing and join us (even if you are late like me).

So what do you do…

when you have only an hour and a half Internet a week?  You  can’t accomplish anything because your list is so long!  That’s what. I sit here with all these things in my mind I should do while I’m at my mom and dad’s bumming Internet and I think I’m clicking back and forth so much that I’m getting NOTHING done.  *sigh*

This REALLY SUCKS!!  yes, I know I said that in my previous post, but I thought it was worth saying again.  IT SUCKS!!!!!

I have ordered a couple birthday gifts for family and friends that have birthdays coming up including going through and looking at so many kids wagons in hopes of finding just the right one for a speical little one on my January list that I’m going crazy.  I don’t even know what to blog about with everything going on lately.  I’m missing all my memes.  At least I had Sunday Smile already scheduled for this week.  UGH!

ok…

I somewhat apologize for all the negative posts…I’m just so frustrated!!!!  As soon as Internet is restored, I will be more positive. :)
