New Phone – Now Need New Accessories

My phone died last week so I had to buy a new one.  I am actually really liking the new phone, but of course it didn’t come cheap, and even worse is starting all over with all the “must have” accessories. I’ve already bought a phone cover as I had to make sure that after spending over $200 for the phone that I protected it. Goodness knows that I will drop it a few times over its hopefully long lifetime.

I still need to get a car charger and trying to find the best BlueTooth headset to purchase so I can chat and drive safely. I think I found a decent car charger and probably will pick up an extra house charger for my classroom as well.  The one thing about these new phones is that the batteries simply do not last and it will be nice to charge it during the day.

I refuse to buy any of these items directly from my cell phone company as they are way too expensive so I’ve been looking around online.

I Know How To

convert word documents to pdf, but I have never tried to go the other way until today. Today I found several pdf documents online that I would like to use, but I need to make a few changes. Thus I needed to know how to go from pdf to doc formats. I wanted to be able to open them in Microsoft Word and tailor them to my needs. I’ve always thought that you were kind of stuck with the document if it was in pdf or you could copy and paste it, but that is a major pain to format as it copies and pastes in such a yucky format!

This is one of those times when I was grateful for the Internet. One quick search and I realized that I had the software to do it and didn’t even know it. :-)   Love when that happens.  I should have know that if Adobe could convert to pdf that it could go the opposite way as well. But I didn’t. Thank you Google!

Decluttering Around Here

I am on a quest – a quest to be more and more paperless as time progresses.  I’ve turned all bills possible into paperless billing. I’ve opted for digital bank statements. And now I’m in the process of trying to decide on the best paperless office software so that I can scan in some of the documents that I must keep. I would love to have everything stored on the computer. And this would also allow for backups in case of some type of disaster.  I’ve looked at a few options and I’m still trying to decide. If any of you have gone paperless, I’d love your advice.

Teaching = Learning

One of the things I love about teaching is how I stretch myself to learn more and more to teach my students. Currently we are working on producing major documents and then making revisions and how to track changes we make along the way. This was something I’ve only done a couple times so for the last week I’ve been practicing so that I could show them.

As today’s student moves into the workforce, they are going to collaborate on so many projects. Tracking changes is important when more than one person is working on a project so that you can see if the changes are some that you want to accept or reject.

Luckily this is pretty easy in modern software as it has become more important. I think software engineers have recognized this need.  I can remember when this was not even really possible, and then when it first started, it was not easy.  Now though, it is super easy to do, and I’m trying to make sure I know how to do it in all popular software so that I can expose my students.

Whether working together on a project for work, planning a party, or maybe a family vacation.  Being able to work together with others makes these projects so much easier. Do you work with others? How do you accomplish computer projects?

Rank Me Higher Please!

How do you get ranked higher in search results? That’s something every webmaster wants to know. Don’t we all want to be that first spot when someone searches in their favorite search engine? There are courses to teach you SEO and businesses that specialize in search engine marketing services. So what’s the trick? Do you need a course? Do you need to hire a company?

That’s probably something only you can decide, but before you spend any money you should do your own research and try to apply some of the free advise offered first and see how that works for you. You might just find some tricks that work for your website that you can implement without any cost.

Don’t expect overnight results either.  Give those techniques you try time to work first.  And only try one or two techniques at a time. Give them time to work, and then try a few more. That way you know what actually works for you. If you are changing your technique daily, you’ll never know what works for sure.

So keep producing those websites and praying to the search engine gods that you are constantly ranking higher in web searches.
