Sailing Along the Life of Single Parenthood

Would This Work?

I’ve started noticing that a lot of movies are cheaper on iTunes than buying the DVD. For example, when I looked at Toy Story 3 in the store the other day, it was $24.99.  On iTunes it was $9.99.  This got me to thinking.  Was there a way to hook up my ipod to the television so we could watch movies as a family?  I decided to search for iphone accessories, and there is such a cable.  There are actually two different ones depending on the type of television you have I guess.  Both cost $49.99.

Now I’m trying to determine if I buy a movie and my ipod goes out, would I still own the copyrights and be3 able to redownload them or are the gone forever?  This would be the only thing that would keep me from beginning to go this route.  I personally think we should be able to download them under our email account as many times as we need to, but maybe that’s why they are cheaper – because they are only good for one person? hmmm

Anyone know more about this?

Recycled Movies?

I have found it so funny this weekend watching the girls (my daughter and a friend that stayed the weekend) watching shows on various channels that I watched growing up.  Not too long ago, Cameron and I watch all three Back to the Futures and Ghost Busters which was awesome – even though I don’t think Cameron understood a lot of it, but to top it off this weekend Teen Witch came on and the girls watched it multiple times.  I had completely forgotten about this movie. When I saw it recorded on the DVR, I still just thought it was some new movie, but then when I saw them watching it, I was amazed.  I remember watching this movie over and over.  I even checked the release date, and I was almost the exact same age they are when it came out, and I was watching it so much.  It’s so weird.  Have your children started watching any of the shows you watched.

It’s Grey’s, It’s Grey’s

Yep, yep. I’m super, super happy because I’m watching Grey’s Anatomy. Whoohoo!! I’m so excited! It feels like forever since I watched it last. I can’t wait to enjoy every minute of it and Private Practice. I was, in fact, sad to watch my summer shows end their seasons, but this week watching all my shows return from spring has me happy, happy, happy, happy!  Any shows back on the air that you’re excited about?

Press Release: Hole In the Wall on Cartoon Network

Wednesday nights are about to get even more outrageous with the premiere of Cartoon Network’s hilarious new game show, Hole in the Wall. Hosted by Teck Holmes (The Real World Hawaii), Hole in the Wall is a “twisted” half-hour game show featuring two teams of families in competition as they face down a series of moving walls with ever-changing cut-out shapes. The fun begins on Wednesday, October 6 with the debut of Hole in the Wall at 7:30 p.m. (ET, PT), followed by all new episodes of Cartoon Networks returning hit series of Dude, What Would Happen at 8:00 p.m. and Destroy Build Destroy at 8:30 p.m. In Hole in the Wall, contortion is key as competitors must position their bodies in any way possible to clear the walls and avoid being thrust into a pool of water – all before a live-audience. As they successfully face down each wall, the patterns become more and more challenging.

Who will be the last family standing to take home the coveted Hole in the Wall trophy and get the opportunity to conquer the nearly impossible “Impossiwall?” Hole in the Wall, the global game show phenomenon and online sensation, is produced by FremantleMedia North America with Scott St. John as executive producer. During their spring 2010 seasons, both Dude, What Would Happen and Destroy Build Destroy achieved double-digit delivery gains among key kid and boys demos. In fact, Destroy Build Destroy was the #1 program on all television—both broadcast and cable—among boys 2-11, boys 6-11 and boys 9-14 during its Wednesday 8:30 p.m. time period. In the new season of Dude, What Would Happen, Jackson, Ali and CJ ask such ridiculously thought provoking questions as, “Dude, what would happen if we tried to surf to class? Or, if we tried to bowl in zero G’s? Or, Dude what would happen if we tried to do laundry in a car wash?” The sky’s the limit for these three! Dude, What Would Happen was created by Chuck Dalakis. The series is produced by Ping Pong Productions with Brad Kuhlman and Casey Brumels as executive producers. Host Andrew W.K. is back to moderate the mayhem with all new episodes of Destroy Build Destroy. NFL superstars Shawne Merriman and Antonio Gates of the San Diego Chargers and NASCAR standouts Joey Logano and Carl Edwards join in on the fun as guest players in two of these brand new episodes. Destroy Build Destroy was created by Dan Taberski and produced by Idiot Box & Mess Media. Dan Taberski and Scott Messick are executive producers for the series. Cartoon Network (CartoonNetwork.com), currently seen in more than 97 million U.S. homes and 166 countries around the world, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.’s ad-supported cable service now available in HD offering the best in original, acquired and classic entertainment for youth and families. Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner company, creates and programs branded news, entertainment, animation and young adult media environments on television and other platforms for consumers around the world.

George Strait & Reba McEntire Concert

As kind of a gift to myself for sitting through the Jonas Brothers, I went to see George and Reba last week in Bossier City and it was the best concert I’ve been to in a long time. I had seen George before, but I’d never seen Reba (or Lee Ann Womack, the opening act). All were really good, but Reba was really impressive for the first time I’d seen her. I wasn’t surprised that she was so great, but still it was AMAZING to actually see her in person! George was superb too, but of course, I already knew that since I’d seen him before.

While I tend to like the show of lights and fireworks and such, it was also great to see a set of artists that were just amazing singers and musicians and didn’t provide all that flare.

In addition to those three, I loved the surprise appearance of Melissa Peterman. I was not expecting it but enjoyed every minute (of course we always watch The Singing Bee).

No other concerts planned now, but the last two weeks were lots of fun. This weekend starts my weekends of academic competition with the students…
