A Fairy Tale Event – NOT!

Nancy Alvarez, owner of the travel website A Fairy Tale Event, has been charged with 42 felony counts.  She’s been charged with 3rd degree grand theft, unlicensed sale of travel, scheme to defraud and operating a business without a license.  Apparenly, Alvarez set up her own website and advertised on Craig’s List promising grand Disney vacations.  The problem? There was no vacation.  She simply took people’s money.

One offer that Alvarez sold was to a local Texas family, the Casto’s.  For $1,200 she promised them airfare, seven nights at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, park entrances, free meals and a rental car.  Not only did they book this great deal quickly, they told other family members and a family reunion trip was planned.  Sadly, there will be no trip now as Alvarez has their money.  She’s reportedly swindled over $25,000 from families across the country through her fake business – A Fairy Tale Event!

Her arraignment is set for October 27th.

Can you imagine how awful this would be? To be planning such a great trip with your family – to the most magical place on Earth to then have to explain to your small children that their trip to see “the Mouse” would not happen because of a woman who had lied and taken your money.

Disney Moves to Bowling?

I’m always amazed at how many areas of our lives that Disney has ventured into, and it appears they are continuing to expand – this time into bowling.  According to an article I found at jaunted.com, Disney will be adding a 100 lane bowling alley to the Walt Disney World property in Orlando.  It will be built in the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex that hosts the Disney Channel Games each spring.

We love the four main parks so much, we’ve not even ventured into the miniature golf or water parks, but for big fans of family bowling, this may be another way to spend your money with Disney.

Why would Disney do this? Not primarily for the normal families that vacation at Disney probably, but instead to host professional tournaments.  And if I had to take a wild guess, those participating in the professional tournaments will probably have good odds of venturing out of the tournament and spending more money with Disney – staying in their hotels, bringing the family to see the parks, or at least doing some shopping at Downtown Disney.

The alley, which will be one of the largest in the United States, is scheduled to open in 2010 and already has signed a deal with the United States Bowling Congress.

Cheetah Countdown!!

Cameron couldn’t wait to get up this morning. In fact she wanted to stay up until midnight last night so that she could cut her first link then. Lucky for me she fell asleep before midnight. But as soon as she woke up this morning, she was begging to cut it. I had to beg for 30 more minutes of sleep. I told her we had to take her picture cutting the first link for the blog so she was ok with it after that, but she was back in 30 minutes for sure! I didn’t get one more minute of sleep!!

But thanks to the idea from Candid Carrie, we have this most awesome Cheetah Chain and the first link has been cut. Now she’s taken that first link to show our grandmother. It was so much fun watching her cut the chain. She eyeballed it this morning after we cut that first link and she has proclaimed that it isn’t going to take us long to make it to the ceiling. :)
