Bonding with your Girlfriends
I find that I miss my “girl time” more and more as the days pass. Not only does my best friend now live 3 hours away, but of course life keeps us both so busy that we can’t find many opportunities during the school year to get together. It’s nice to think we’ll change that - we’ll find a way, but the reality is that we can’t. For example, Cameron has an activity EVERY weekend from now until the first weekend of June. Some of these activities are on Fridays, others are on Saturdays. But if we’re going to make the trip to Houston, we need to head that way on Fridays. So even just Friday games make a trip to Houston impossible. So what can you do? No doubt that this past weekend when I was feeling down had something to do with the fact that it’s been so long (think Christmas) since we’ve seen each other.
We admit that with our two very active schedules, finding the weekends is hard. We’ll make more efforts, but it isn’t going to be easy and probably won’t find more than a couple a year extra, but we’ve come up with one plan - “Girls’ Vacations.” I’ve got Ding installed on my computer so we’re going to start watching it and just going random places. Maybe all we’ll do on these spontaneous vacations is visit a mall and sit by pools at cheap hotels, but that’s not the point. The point is we’ll be spending time together - away from our families - girl time - relaxtion time. You know what I mean?
We’re for sure watching for something in June or July and planning to make it a summer tradition. I turn 30 next year so we’re thinking a birthday trip too. (We’re both teachers and my birthday is in December so we’ll have the Christmas holidays.) So while I haven’t found a real solution to missing my “girl time,” this is one of my solutions in addition to the regular phone calls we have.
