About Me
–in progress….as of 6/2/2008–
General Introduction:
My name is Kimberly, and I love in a small town in East Texas. I’ve lived in this area basically all my life (all of it that I can remember anyways). I attended Stephen F. Austin State University (Go Jacks!) where I graduated with a BBA in General Business. When I declared a major in business, I thought I would leave East Texas and work for some great corporation in a city somewhere, but then life changed.
Education/Employment:
While working with the debaters at my old high school, I realized how much I enjoyed the time spent with them. I actually looked forward to those early mornings we would meet and head for touraments. The more I helped, the more I realized that even though I had always sworn I wouldn’t be a teacher (both my parents are teachers), maybe that’s where my heart belongs. It was too late to declare a major in education though. That would have cost me a couple more years of college, and it was about this time that my daughter came along which meant I needed to get out of college and get a “real job.”
I maxed out my hours each semester, graduated with my BBA, and then began teaching while working on my certification. I am now certified to teach speech communications, English, business, and technology classes in grades 6th through 12th. I currently teach high school English in a very small school where I am the entire English department. I teach 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English. Pretty much every student at our school takes me for English. Last year was my first year at this school, and I am also in the process of building a forensics (speech/debate) program with some very awesome students.
Family:
I have one daughter named Cameron. She is currently 7 going on 20. She is such a super little girl. Yes, she’s misbehaved, but overall she’s given me so few problems. I am so thankful that God gave me this bright young lady. She truly is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It has been just the two of us for as far back as she can remember, and I think that being a single mom definitly has it’s challenges, but I also think it has allowed for a very special and close relationship between the two of us.
The summer of 2007 proved to provide a few changes for us - one I mentioned previously, I changed schools and so we relocated our lives into a new community. This was really tough on both of us, but I still feel confident that we made the right decision. However while dealing with these changes, we had a really great thing happen - we gained a new family member. A young lady that held a very special place in my heart already came to live with us. She is 16, and her name is Becka. Becka is a very driven and focused young woman who recognized that her current environment was not the best place for her acadmically. By coming to live with us, she could go to our new school with us and be provided a whole new world of opportunties. As of press date, we have concluded our first year together, and Becka has won a spot in mine and Cameron’s hearts that she will hold forever.
I have multiple siblings - a 27 year old sister, a 21 year old brother, twin 18 year old brothers, and a 15 year old sister. My oldest sister is married and lives in Dallas with the best niece and nephew an aunt could ever wish for. One of my twin brothers enlisted in the Army after graduating last year and is currently serving our country in Iraq.
I consider myself very lucky because within just a few minutes of my house, I have many other family members. One of my grandmothers, one of my dads (yes, I have 2), and a great uncle actually live within 200ish yards of my house. My other set of grandparents live just a mile or two through the woods :), and my parents are less than 10 miles away.
