My name is Kimberly, and I love in a small town in East Texas. I’ve lived in this area basically all my life (all of it that I can remember anyways). I attended Stephen F. Austin State University (Go Jacks!) where I graduated with a BBA in General Business. When I declared a major in business, I thought I would leave East Texas and work for some great corporation in a city somewhere, but then life changed.
While working with the debaters at my old high school, I realized how much I enjoyed the time spent with them. I actually looked forward to those early mornings we would meet and head for tournaments. The more I helped, the more I realized that even though I had always sworn I wouldn’t be a teacher (both my parents are teachers), maybe that’s where my heart belongs. It was too late to declare a major in education though. That would have cost me a couple more years of college, and it was about this time that my daughter came along which meant I needed to get out of college and get a “real job.” I maxed out my hours each semester, graduated with my BBA, and then began teaching while working on my certification. I am now certified to teach speech communications, English, and business classes in grades 6th through 12th and technology for all grades.
I have two daughters – Becka and Cameron. Cameron is the “baby.” She’s in junior high now and plays basketball and softball, runs cross country and track, and is a cheerleader. Yep, we stay pretty busy. She is a wonderful young lady that I am so proud of. I am so thankful that God brought her to me at the perfect time in my life. She truly is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It’s just the two of us at home so we have lots of time together, and I think a very special bond that is different than a lot of mother/daughter bonds.
Becka is the oldest. She is in college at Stephen F. Austin working on her Master’s in Accounting, and I am so proud of her for her self-motivation and all she accomplishes in her life. She is married and has my very favorite (ok, he’s my only) grandson, Toby. I am Toby’s Mimi, and I love every single minute of it. Being a grandparent is such a special feeling. He is absolutely perfect. I look forward to every moment I spend with Becka, Karl, and Toby.
I currently teach secondary technology in a very small school where I am the entire Business/technology department. I am also enrolled at Lamar University where I am working towards a Master’s in Educational Counseling.
And in all my spare time, I write online.
