Sailing Along the Life of Single Parenthood

I Keep Reading About This

I keep reading about this company as I browse blogs so I had to go check it out.  The company is C’elle, and I’ve become just a touch curious.  The first couple times I read about this I just thought “gross,” but today I actually clicked through to check it out and read a little more details than the other blogs were revealing.  I’m not sure I’m ready to go through with it or anything, but I do find the concept sort of intriguing.

The company sends women kits for collecting their menstrual fluids that are normally just discarded. After they are collected you send them in to be preserved.  It seems that the stem cells in women’s fluids can be stored for a lifetime and possibly used for a variety of cosmetic and life saving remedies later in life for both the woman and her family. It is all still in the research phases though. So you aren’t really guaranteed these possible health benefits – yet. But according to the site, they seem pretty certain that these will be useful in the future.

I kept looking becuase I’m not so sure I understand the process, but the potential benefits do sound impressive.  I also checked out the pricing page to just feel more informed, and they even have gifting options.  It just keeps getting more interesting.  If you click the order now page, you find out that they will ship you this kit by Fed Ex for the instructions and supplies needed to collect the cells and you then mail everything back.

Have you heard of this? Do you know any more than what I found out? I’d love to hear and understand this a little more.

I’M IN SHOCK!

I never win anything.  I have loved the world of blog contests because my 30 years of bad luck have turned around and I’ve picked up some nice prizes, but I just won the most awesome prize ever!  You might remember me telling you about the biggest contest I had ever posted.  It was the chance to win trips to BlogHer 09 sponsored by the mom blogs, MomDot and Momma Findings along with  Label Daddy.  Between them they were giving away a complete sponsorship (flight, hotel, and conference fees) and two convention fee scholarships.

You won’t believe this, but I WON the portion hosted on the MomDot site.  Yes, you are reading correctly.  Thanks to Label Daddy and MomDot, I will be at BlogHer 09.  I had really not even allowed myself to think about BlogHer that much as I knew it was just out of the question, but now I am going.  I will be there. I WILL BE AT BLOGHER 09!!  I have known for a couple hours now, and I’m still as shocked and speechless as I was when Trisha told me. I can’t wait.  I’ve downloaded Ding from Southwest to start watching airfare prices. I pulled up the hotel information tonight too and will book that on the next payday (come on March 15).

So – who else is going? When are you arriving?  I can’t wait to meet all the ladies who are going (or still hope to go) in my favorite mom forum and pick up as many tips for blogging as I can.  It’s still a while away, but I’ll be doing lots of posting so that all of you can experience it through my eyes.

Wanting to go, but need some help to get there too? Be sure to show up at Friday Night Live where Trisha will be giving out tips for gaining sponsorship to Blogher. I’m going to be there taking very close notes (hey! maybe I could find someone to sponsor a portion of my airfare or hotel – you never know)!

One More Week

I can’t wait for one of my biggest stresses of the year to be gone and I only have one more week.  Actually 6 days now.  I teach high school English and next week is our state’s standardized test.  So right now is crunch time – covering last minute details, testing strategies, and trying to seem on task without giving them too much to do right now so they don’t get overworked and stressed out themselves (hahaha!  I make myself think they care enough to be stressed out).

I can’t wait for next Tuesday to get here. From here classes go down hill – we read a few of my favorite pieces of literature in each – longer selections that we can spend a few weeks on each.  In the next twelve weeks, we’ll cover Romeo & Juliet, The Miracle Worker, The Crucible, and I think 12 Angry Men.  I’m thinking of maybe reading The Giver with one class and another novel.  I can’t wait to get into these awesome pieces of literature.  Yea!!

Teaser Tuesday

My Tuesday meme for the week is Teaser Tuesday by Should Be Reading.

TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:

  • Grab your current read.
  • Let the book fall open to a random page.
  • Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
  • You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
  • Please avoid spoilers!

I finished up The 6th Target this week (by James Patterson) so I thought I’d share one more quote from this one before moving on to the next book.

I opened up the book and it fell to page2 414/415.  And here I found this line…

Instantly we swarmed into the small room.  A chair tipped over, and a desktop crashed to the ground.
