Small Talk Six at MomDot

One of my favorite new memes is Small Talk Six hosted each week at MomDot.  This meme is hosted each Saturday, and it’s super easy.  MomDot published a week of topics divided by dates.  You check out the topic of the week and then list 6 answers.  This is a great way to have something to post on the weekends

6 things that never fail to make you smile

This is a pretty easy one.  I think I’m a pretty happy person so lots of things make me smile.  Here’s my list for this week:

  1. My girls.  No matter what seeing them walk into a room always brings a smile to my face.
  2. Nobody puts Baby in the corner.” That quote from my favorite movie always makes me very happy.  Actually to be honest, the entire movie makes me happy.
  3. Hershey’s Hugs.  Oh yea, I love them. I don’t eat much chocolate, but I love my Hugs.
  4. 2 AM Phone Calls.  Not the emergency ones (obviously), but the ones from my crazy friends who don’t seem to realize that I’m a single mom and not out closing down the  bars at 2.  I always wake up and talk to them because even though it annoys me, I also love hearing their voices.
  5. Postcards from around the world.  I have one really good friend that does a lot of traveling and he’s sure to always send me a post card every few months.
  6. Home.  Not the house so much as just returning home after a long trip or a long day at work.  I love to be home.  I love coming around that curve and seeing my home just ahead. Knowing that I will soon be in my space.  I love being home.

What six things always make you smile?  Go write about it and then head to MomDot and sign Mr. Linky so we can all get to know each other.

Think Thin Thursday on Friday

Yes, I know I’m a day late on my Think Thin post, but I wanted to be sure to get back in the habit before I start letting my habits slip like my weekly posts have.  I was relieved when I went to check in with Bridgette to find that she had not been posting (so maybe i wasn’t missed?).  I have been working hard at watching the diet, drinking the water, and only 3 days of exercise still, but I’m sticking with those 3 days.  My life will take a big notch down next week so I plan to try to pick up the exercise goals after this week.  I’ve been think of buying a treadmill so that I can put a little more variety in my exercise, but I’m not sure since it’s getting warmer and I’ll be able to walk outside soon. So to sum up my progress lately – I’m sticking to the plan, not a lot, nothing great, but I’m staying on track with plans to pick up the pace after one mroe week.

Aloha Friday

I am sooooo glad that I’m here to write and say IT’S FRIDAY!  I am so tired this week. My brain has been on overload every night and so focused on everything but sleep. I’ve gotten a lot done, but only sleeping 4 hours a night is catching up with me.

So today we’ll take it easy around here – Island Style with Aloha Friday. My question for the week is spurred off of my previous post:

What is the one show (entertainment not news) you would miss the most if it was taken off of television? (It can be an old or new show)

Do you have an Aloha Friday post this week? If so sign Mr. Linky below and be sure to go over to an Island Life and answer the first question on the chain and sign that Mr. Linky.

I Don’t Care for Reruns or The News

Excuse me for this rant and rave, but geez, I need to get this off of my shoulders.

WHEN DID TELEVISION SEASONS GET SO SHORT?

Seriously, I was just getting really caught up in Grey’s and Private Practice and I get all my housework done as soon as I get home tonight so I can settle down and watch it and I quickly realize I’ve already seen Grey’s.  Then I flip to the guide to see what episode will be on Private Practice and it’s another rerun.  ICK!    I didn’t rush to et all of that done for reruns!  I want to see NEW stuff.  *sigh*

I am too lazy to change the channel though – ok, not really.  I’m too lazy to read the guide and find something else to watch so I just let them play waiting on the 10:00 news.  And now I realize that I may just have to ban the news.  It’s just plain depressing. Did you know we are in a recession, and practically everyone is hurting?  If I hear that one more time, I’m going to scream.  As soon as that started, I flipped over to another station to watch their news and was happy to see that they were at least focusing on ways to cope with the economy. They had a special  on where they were working with a FAFSA office to help east Texans fill out the FAFSA and then discussed credit counseling through places like Care One Credit.  In these times it is especially important to practice debt management. I know I’m applying extra to all of my debt right now in hopes of becoming debt free.

I still am not happy about seeing so much dang bad news and especially news about the economy but at least the second station was focusing on how to make a bad situation good instead of just bad numbers, bad numbers, bad numbers. UGH

So are the seasons really already ending? Or was this just a bad week? Are you sick of bad news followed with a little bad news?  We need to start a good news only news station.

A Scary Mommy Moment

So last night as I was soaking in the excitement about BlogHer and realizing that I was really going, Cameron was heading to bed. She went to the kitchen to throw away her water bottle, and all of a sudden she was screaming at the top of her lungs.  I get up and look at her and you can tell by the she’s screaming and hollering that she is in lots of pain, but I can’t figure out what in the world could cause this all of a sudden pain.

That’s when I noticed she was holding her foot up.  Okay….so I at least know where the pain is, but I have no idea what caused it.  I carry her to the couch to look at her foot.  She’s still SCREAMING at the top of her lungs like she’s going to die and I’m VERY scared…did she brake her ankle? Yes. I’m borderline losing it.

When I lay her on the couch, I pull up her foot to look at it and it’s solid black from wearing her new black flip flops that day.  I can’t see anything.  I ask where it hurts.  She screams. I ask again. She screams.  I finally have to yell back, “I can’t help if you don’t calm down and tell me where it hurts.”  Ok…Mommy voice won. She still has tears rolling down her eyes, but no screaming (thank you Lord).  She points to the bottom of her food (good it’s not a broken ankle). Like I said, the bottom of the foot is BLACK so I still can’t help.  I ask her if she can hobble to the bathtub and run some water over it to clean it some and explain that I can’t see anything right now. She thinks she can so she jumps to the bathroom on one leg and I head to the kitchen to try to look for the glass (or whatever has caused her this pain).

I don’t even get all the way to the kitchen when I see it – a wasp on the floor.  Not sure if it was dazed before she stepped on it, but if not she dazed it when she stepped on it. I can tell it’s alive, but it’s not really moving. I walk by it, grab the flyswatter, and bend down to swat it.  It moves it’s antenna (or whatever), but it never moves its feet or flys.  I swat it and pick it up with a paper towel to throw it outside.

By this time Cameron has her foot clean. I tell her what happened. We get the Anti-Sting stuff my grandmother gave us when bees got after Cameron last year at school and doctor it.  Of course we cover it with a Disney Princess bandaid – Disney bandaids cure everything whether they are really needed or not. Did you know that?

We tuck her into bed and all is now well.  She’s still limping. I had to write a note to the coaches explaining why she couldn’t run today,  and she thinks that was the “stupidest wasp ever” since I told her that when she stepped on it she killed it.

And through the entire ordeal, I have to admit. I forgot all about BlogHer.  Dang!  How is that for killing a buzz?  Of course as soon as she was settled in and I was back in the living room, I started researching BlogHer and Chicago some more.  :)
