A Mother’s Promise

Did you know that Motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death among children in the U.S.?  Evenflo is working to change that and they feel that together, we can make a difference.  What are they doing?

They have created a FaceBook comunity called, “A Mother’s Promise.” They are focusing on bringing moms together in a quest to keep children safe while on the road.

I personally have never let Cameron ride ANYWHERE without her car seat.  Just last night I heard an advertisement on the radio reminding everyone that 4’9″ is how tall our children should be before we let them get out of a booster seat.  Not only do we still use a booster seat (at age 8), it was just over this past summer (at 7) that I let her get out of a booster that had the back and sides.  And she still whines from time to time and wants it back – the only reason we gave it up was she was embarrased when friend’s rode with us, and she was still in a “car seat.”  She loves those sides though as it makes sleeping in the car so much easier.  We actually kept it for long trips still.

I think it is so great that Evenflo is launching this program to make everyone more aware of automobile safety.   If you have a FaceBook account, I encourage you to head over and post on the Wall, pledging to your children to do everything within your power to protect them.  If you don’t have a FaceBook account and are interested in checking this out, join and create a profile over at FaceBook and then search for “A Mother’s Promise” so you can post your promise. You should also consider spreading the word to other family members, friends, mothers – everyone you know. Together we truly can make that difference that Evenflo is encouraging.

Cameron & The Unicorn

One of the best gifts (and one of the cheapest) that I gave Cameron this year was one of Frecklebox’s personalized books for children. And I feel so excited that I did so.  It was an awesome gift that Cameron truly enjoyed.  She has carried it around and shown everyone. She is so proud of it.  The book is called, “Cameron and the Unicorn,” and it is the story of Cameron meeting a unicorn and spending the day with her.  I think this has made such a great gift that I plan to return to Frecklebox and buy future personalized gifts such as personalized coloring books or growth charts for other children in our family and friends.

Not only is Cameron a part of the story (you can see the first page in the slideshow below), but FreckleBox also used her name in so many creative ways throughout the story – in clouds and a rainbow, on a berry bush. I mean really, they chose so many neat ways to include her in the story. The first time she read it, it was so fun to watch her eyes light up and she’d exclaim about seeing her name.  Then she’d just rub her finger over each time her name was used in the graphics. It’s amazing.  The only thing I was disappointed about (now not when I actually received it) is that it’s soft back, and she loves it so much that it’s looking worn out already.  It would be nice to have the same book but in hard back.

Check out the slideshow below to see just a few of the awesome pages in Cameron and the Unicorn.

What a Day

I never have these types of days, but I literally have slept almost the entire day. I’ve woke up a few times for a little while, but then I would go back to sleep before I knew it.  I am actually still in my PJs.  I never do this.  Even on lazy days, I shower and put on clean clothes. LOL

We got in at 6 this morning from Tommie’s welcome back ceremony at Fort Polk.  It was really touching!  I was amazed at how much it moved me to watch all those soldiers march in.  (I’ll be posting pictures tomorrow for Wordless Wednesday I think)..  I went straight to bed when we got in (I had to do all the driving (2 hours each way) so I exhausted.  I was back up at 8:30 (when Cameron woke up as she slept before we left, the entire way there, and the entire way back). But then after I got her settled (we stayed at Mom’s so I turned her over to her Uncle Tommie who was awake), I went back to bed and slept until 10:30.  I stayed up until about 2:30 this time, but had no more juice so I laid on the couch and went back to sleep.  I woke back up at 4:30 and am now up.

Now I know though that my schedule is going to be totally Screwed!!!  I will be up all night after sleeping all day and then be tired tomorrow. This should be fun. :)

He’s In The States

He’s landed in Chicago and is now on the next plane headed to Lousiana!!!  (If you are not a regular follower, this is my brother Tommie who is in the Army and has been stationed in Iraq)  Countdown is on…We are going to be leaving here in about an hour and a half and heading to Fort Polk for the welcome home stuff and then we’ll actually bring him HOME for a few days too…..
