Sailing Along the Life of Single Parenthood

Going North East

I’ve traveled through pretty much all of the southern states from California to Washington DC and south. I’ve traveled from Texas to Indiana, but other than, I’ve pretty much only traveled in the South. I have a dream though to travel through Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, Massachusetts…all those northern states.

New York is one that stands out as my favs. I have had a brief stop there, but not long enough to truly see anything and I wasn’t old enough to really remember and enjoy it. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned it but after this trip next week to Disney, we are going to try to hold off for 2 years and not do Disney again until summer 2010.

I don’t want to actually skip out on a vacation though so I’m thinking we’ll head to New England. For most places I’m comfortable figuring it out on our own and going with the flow, but not in New York. When New York City Sightseeing I would rather stick with tours and such. CitySightsNY looks really awesome because you can do the tour on one of those Double Decker Busses. I’ve never been on one of these, and I think this would be such an experience for both myself and my girls. They have bus tours that include seeing the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and Ellis Island among so many other options. And what’s so great is that it looks like when you pay for your bus tickets, you’ll also receive the tickets for whatever sights you include in your tour.

If a New England vacation does work out for us (maybe next summer), I intend to do some serious research into CitySightsNY as I think they are maybe the best option I’ve seen so far.

A Couple More Contests for the Night

Thought I’d post a couple more contests for you tonight before I get off the computer for a few hours and play my Wii Fit!

All right…it’s family time for the night though I do have a couple more posts scheduled for you.

Talk to you later and good luck with these contests!!!

Employer Evaluations

I was recently talking to a non educator friend of mine (yea, I don’t have many of those..LOL) and she was talking about how it was time for them to receive their semi-yearly evaluations at work and she was nervous. As teachers in Texas, we are evaluated by a pretty specific list of qualities and the state has created a set of software for the principals to use; however, my friend (no, I’m not going to call your name) said that their evaluations are sometimes done on notebook paper, sometimes typed and neat, but totally random. But she was also telling me about this software (and knowing how much I use computers wanted me to download the free trial and play with it before she told her boss) at Manager Assistant.com. Being in the education industry for so long now, it took me a while to get into the business world mindset again, but after looking at the free trial, it does look like it might just be what she’s looking for. I am going to recommend she tell her boss about it and we shall see what happens!

Another Commenting Contest at What’s That Smell

I seem to get in on these all too late…Someone has a definite lead before I start playing, but they are still fun to play.  Kim at What’s That Smell is having another contest based on comments. This time the winner will be chosen at random though (not just the one that leaves the most) so even if you only go enter once, you have a chance. Up for grabs this time is this awesome Princess Linens Doodlebugz Crayola Dufflebag.  I find that a lot of the children’s products on the blogging contests I find are too young for Cameron, but she still loves to draw and color so this would be a great addition to our house.

If you think you’d like to win this for one of your children (or a grandchild, niece, or nephew), here’s how Kim is letting us enter this time

  • FIRST ENTRY-MANDATORY: Visit Princess Linens and pick which color/pattern of Doodlebag you would like to win and come back here and leave us a comment telling us which one you selected.
  • ADDITIONAL ENTRIES-OPTIONAL: You can earn an UNLIMITED number of entries provided the following conditions are met:
    • You may not comment multiple times in a row, someone else must have commented before you leave another comment
  • Your additional comments must include either the name of another item from the Princess Linens catalog OR the name of a Crayola Color.

Isn’t that creative and fun? Head over and get your entries in!!  The contest ends August 13th.  (That means I have to get lots of entries now as we leave in SEVEN days for Disney and will be gone until the 13th!

Miley’s BreakOut CD

I can’t believe we haven’t purchasedBreakout yet, but I was looking today and thinking we have to get this before we leave for Disney World as I think all of us would enjoy listening to it during the plane ride. I admit to liking the youthful Hannah Montana pop songs. They tend to just get my attention, and they are happy. But they aren’t something I want to listen to very often, but so far the songs I’ve heard that are on Breakout are really good songs.  I am actually a country music fan for the most part, but I still enjoy her songs.

I also am finding her music ability to be impressive. She’s co-wrote 8 of the songs on this new CD which I think shows more than a passing fancy – this is talent and shows real potential for a long term career.

Check out these interesting facts about Miley:

  • Miley Cyrus is the youngest ever recording artist with three # 1 albums in less than 2 years.
  • “Hannah Montana The Movie” is finished filming.
  • Miley co-wrote 8 of the songs on Breakout
  • The first single off of Breakout, “7 Things” raced # 1 at Radio Disney and top 5 at iTunes.
  • Miley is back to filming the next season of Hannah Montana the TV series.
  • In July Miley was on the covers of Billboard and TV Guide magazines and a special edition of People Magazine.
  • Miley stars as the voice of Penny in the upcoming Disney animated comedy adventure “Bolt,” which will premier Nov. 26th.
